About
Catherine (Hualei) brings a combination of early-stage investment, corporate strategy, and data science application experience to her role in identifying new investment opportunities. At DCM, Catherine focuses on technology enabled opportunities including enterprise services, digital health, and smart devices. Catherine deeply understands the challenges in entrepreneurship, yet she strongly believes that the future and opportunities lie in changes and innovations. Therefore, she sincerely respects and empathizes entrepreneurs who take the courage and conviction to change the world despite all the challenges. She feels lucky and honored to support great entrepreneurs and join their journey in discovering the future.
Prior to DCM, Catherine took multiple roles at AIG including on the data science team and personal insurance strategy team. As an early practitioner of data science, Catherine has led multiple projects that use AI and big data technology to enable top-line growth and operational improvements. As the youngest team member on the personal insurance strategy team, Catherine helped to scope innovative investment opportunities and develop / implement major ROE improvement strategies for the $13B portfolio. As an MBA summer associate at Legend Capital, Catherine also participated in several deals and researches in fintech and artificial intelligence space. Her experience living and working in both US and China gave her a broader perspective, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
Catherine loves delicious food, wine, travel, and art. To better and more sustainably enjoy these hobbies, she likes to exercise especially playing tennis. In addition to becoming a good investor, she also aspires to become a certified sommelier one day.
