Ramon Zeng, General Partner at DCM Ventures, began his journey with the firm in 2007 as its first non-partner investment professional in the Beijing office. Over the years, he has played a key role in expanding DCM’s presence in Greater China and across Asia, contributing to the firm’s growth through strategic investments and key partnerships in the region’s technology sector. His investment focus spans the rapidly evolving digital economy, supporting startups at the forefront of trends such as platform-driven business models, consumer engagement, and enterprise digitization.
Some of Ramon’s recent investments include UniUni, Glints, OpusClip, Aqrose, Huiyixuan, Vipthink, Litmatch, Sensors Data, TKing, YunQuNa, and Zaihui. As a board member, he has played a key role in successful exits such as Pony.ai (NASDAQ: PONY), Tantan (acquired by Momo), Uxin (NASDAQ: UXIN), Ucloud (management buyout), Kanbox (acquired by Alibaba), Ledongli (acquired by Alisports), and Raventech (acquired by Baidu). He also contributed significantly to DCM’s landmark successes, including Vipshop (NYSE: VIPS) and 58.com (NYSE: WUBA), as well as other notable exits such as Tuniu (NASDAQ: TOUR), Luxin (SH002565), and Happy Elements (management buyout).
Before joining DCM, Ramon gained experience in technology investments as an Associate at Panthera Capital Group, focusing on growth-stage companies in the information technology sector. Earlier, he worked as a Regional Business Analyst at AIG/AIU, supporting the company’s expansion and M&A efforts in Greater China. Ramon began his career at the headquarters of Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, contributing to the development of its online banking platform as part of the e-Banking team.
Ramon holds a B.A. from Xi’an Jiaotong University and an M.B.A. from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. He is also a graduate of the Kauffman Fellowship Program. Ramon was named one of Forbes’ “Top Venture Capitalists in China” in 2018 and 2019, Financial Times China’s “Top Venture Investors” in 2017, and “40 under 40” by Cyzone from 2013 to 2015.
Ramon enjoys being a “backpacking partner” for entrepreneurs, exploring new paths together with mutual trust, honest feedback, support, and shared ambition. He is particularly passionate about working with founders who have a global vision, especially those starting in Asia and striving to expand internationally.
